Right now both superpowers are outspending their incomes. It's probably necessary in the current circumstances. The alternative is austerity, and so far, that hasn't really worked for anyone. I don't think the United States or China are willing to go there. Both countries are trying to grow their way out of their deficits. In this respect China is in a better position for now. At some point the piper will probably have to be paid and that will probably happen in the U.S. first. I strongly suspect that it will be resisted to the last possible moment though.

Right now the "evidence" is highly conspiratorial. It's not worth the effort to explore until something more substantial presents itself.

@rasalghul3963 Those ethnic and social tensions, though real, are tiny considering the big picture (number of people affected) in China, especially compared with the ethnic and social tensions in the United States. I'm not dismissing them or excusing them, but with regards to the health of the country, they are a minor nuisance, not an existential threat.
