As an American I'm sorry that you got caught in our international pissing contest with China/Iran. I understand that many Canadians see a nuance that differentiates the Chinese arrests of the two Canadians against the Canadian arrest of Ms. Meng. I think that kind of nuance is lost however outside of the First-World academic and nationalist circles. And while I recognize the treaty/rule-of-law point of view, I can't with a straight face say that Ms. Meng's arrest was not ludicrously inappropriate, stoked by our president's vicious desire to threaten Iranian eradication (and to punish those who don't enable it) as well as his fear of Chinese technological superiority in certain fields. I wish I could give Canada good advice on this but the best hope for Canada as well as the Canadians caught up in all of this is for Trump to override all of this nonsense through the strong-arming of American courts (undermining American rule of law in the process) or abandoning the cruel sanctions he's levied against Iran which we claim Ms. Meng is in violation of. That, of course, is nothing to be counted on.
