  1. Regardless of what one might think of NATO, membership within has a huge benefit regarding defense. Türkiye will almost certainly not leave the alliance unless it's forced out (for which there is no current mechanism to my knowledge), the alliance collapses, or NATO goes to war with someone Türkiye is unwilling to fight. And in the latter circumstance, they probably will need another alliance to join in order to absorb some of that loss.
