  1. The regional powers in that area always have been and will continue to be Anatolia, Persia and Egypt. Everyone else is a flash in the pan. How power and influence distribute themselves among Turkey, Iran and Egypt, and whether or not these polities can get past their ethnic, historical and sectarian differences will determine whether or not the region as a whole blossoms or withers.
