It's good to see that not every politician in Taiwan is a western puppet. I'm sure he won't win, and businessmen aren't usually very good leaders, but Taiwan's best future course is peaceful reunification, and this guy understands it. I applaud him for at least being willing to bring this realization to the public forum.

sensin23 Regardless, peace will ultimately rely on Taiwan's understanding of their actual position.

Of course he's not looking to secure the Democracy and Independent freedom of Taiwan. He recognizes that as suicidal. In the long run, he's probably right.

There is no question, but not for the reason you state.

An American president would seal a peace treaty between Israel and the guy who just signed a peace treaty with Iran and put his country into BRICS? I'm sorry, I don't see it.

@sp-gu5wn I'm sorry. I'm not sure I understand your point. Please elaborate.

So produce more and export more? How can you get the kind of investment necessary to pull that off? Well, there's always the BRI.

Really? That would be very surprising to me.

Saw the title. I thought it was an Onion article.

That would sure solve a lot of problems, but I seriously doubt it would be that simple.

I think that's pretty obvious.

Maybe Hong Kong, Ukraine for a while, Fujian, or Mad Max—Taiwan has four possible futures, and only number three is entirely within their determinability.
1
@oyondey2 Perhaps. It might be a very short-lived free and independent country. Either way, it would be a bombed-out nightmare.

Congratulations to India on their successful moon mission. Welcome to the club. As for Western racist belittlement and condescension, ask your neighbors. The Chinese have been dealing with it for decades.

India is many things, some great and some small. India is not a deterrent to China regarding anything to do with Taiwan. I'm sorry, it just isn't.

@yaoliang1580 That's not very nice. However, Taiwan applying for NATO membership would be tantamount to declaring independence which would reignite the civil war. Taiwan might or might not be reincorporated, but the only way that it wouldn't be blacktopped is if it capitulated immediately.
