Security was extremely lacking back in the 70’s I worked in the finance department for a large company in the 80’s processing expense claim payments and has access to set up employees on the system, so could have quite easily set up a bogus account added expenses to that account (under the company check limit) and paid myself a nice amount each week (originally by cheques back then and later via BACS transfer). I didn’t of course as I liked the job and was very good at it but it was possible, until I mentioned it to management and changes were put in place about setting up accounts.

My dad used to work for Unigate as their motor mechanic at one of the deliver centres and they have a skip out the back that they would throw out yoghurts, drinks, baby food etc that was close to the use by date as they could not deliver it to shops and supermarkets. We used to go around as kids and help ourselves to what ever was thrown out as it was perfectly edible just close or on the use by date.

It all gone potty in my view what with crazy wages top players gets these days, stupid transfer fees in the 10’s of millions and the ridiculous ticket prices, when the average household now in 2022 has trouble to pay rising fuel costs. It no longer about the football and all about how much money top football clubs directors and it’s players can make.

  35. I remember when you could walk down the main street in my local town in the 70/80’s and no shops (apart from Halfords) would open and you wouldn’t see a single person. I worked at Halford in the cycle department on many a Sunday and you would be lucky if you got 1 person in the shop all day and it was so boring. Now in 2024 Sunday is just as same as Monday thru Saturday

  39. As a professional Nash won the British and then European lightweight titles by fights arranged in the wake of abandoned vacant titles. The titles were left vacant by Jim Watt, whom many saw as running scared of Nash and it wasn't until 1980 that Nash finally got the chance to fight Watt - this time for the World Boxing Council lightweight title. The death of his manager Jack Solomon very close to the bout almost caused the fight to be called off, however, Nash found a new manager in Mickey Duff. This enabled the match to go ahead. Nash lost the match, and was bitterly disappointed.
