Comments by "Jason Dashney" (@jasondashney) on "What Happened to the Vikings After Battling The Native Americans" video.
I have watched two of your videos now and both of them start with a disclaimer that you don't condone the thing you're talking about. Do you believe every historian has to cast judgement on what they are talking about and have to worry that people will think that everything they talk about is something that they specifically endorse? That's a weird thing to care about. If you are somehow forced by YouTube to do it, then that is an astonishing commentary on how pathetic we are getting as a society.

My first reaction was to be blown away about the disclaimer but after looking at the comments I'm very encouraged by the fact that so many other people think it is gross. You and I both know that this is not borne of trying to make sure people don't feel upset. It's born of political ideology because you know and I know that this only comes from one side of the political spectrum and trigger warnings are absolutely not some thing that are applied consistently. If it wasn't politically motivated, and let's be honest, motivated by fear, it wouldn't bother me so much. It's not based in compassion, it's based on fear and compliance and that's why it should be pushed so hard against. I down voted this video because I feel that strongly about it.

@doomslayer1989 it's so ironic but the people who are the most soft are the ones that want the most draconian punishment for anyone who does not think like they do. They want to be as vicious as possible while not understanding what an insane form of weakness that is.

@Last_Chance. I don't see it that way. I think it's sad he's covering his ass in a way that's kowtowing which I think is different from being diligent about documenting procedures etc. I feel it's an act of cowardice to do something just so ideologues don't attack you. I'm not saying he shouldn't do it, I'm just saying it makes me sad.

@THEZUNIGAFAM you don't find it completely bananas that some people feel compelled to put a disclaimer that they don't straight up condone slavery or war or whatever? The terrifying part of all of it is that it's coming from an ideology that caused more death and destruction than slavery did over the last century. There's no way you would have to put that disclaimer if you were discussing communism. That means it's extremely hypocritical. It's ever creeping and it's extraordinarily dangerous which means it should be fight which means it's not a minor thing that people have to put disclaimers or self sensor to the level that they feel they need to now. It's all done out of fear and that needs to be pushed back against.

@mckeysayshi Thank you. I appreciate that. Cheers!

So instead of offering a cogent argument about why disclaimers are helpful, or at the least not harmful, you choose to personally insult the people. That's extremely typical of the attitude of the far left is forcing this garbage on us. It's smug and morally bankrupt. It's something insisted upon by the cowardly. You are cowardly. There, now I'm insulting you. Are we even now? Are we better off now that we are personally insulting each other?

@ToudaHell If it's a video about Nazis and the old Soviet regime, you don't not need disclaimers. At all. If you click on them you already know damn well what you're getting. If you click on a video about childrens show host you remember from your childhood that you loved because he wanted some nostalgia and it turns out the whole video is about how he raped and murdered an entire family, then I can maybe see a bit of a disclaimer. But if you already clicked on the video BECAUSE of the atrocities then I don't know what to tell you if you still need a disclaimer.

@uttermanbo 100% it's an indictment on society today. We've been cowards and have allowed extremist ideologues to run the asylum. More people need to refuse when asked to do the ridiculous.

@doomslayer1989 Punishment is the whole point. Cancel culture. Daily Dose of Internet talks about how YouTube makes him put on insane disclaimers. These days you have to do stuff like that or face the wrath. In this particular case, that can be in the form of a channel being demonetized or taken down. In the general world it can result in major headaches at work once the Mob comes after you. It's real.

@bric3842 What is it about disclaimers that help? I want to understand what their pointers, especially when it comes to something like World War II were obviously it's not gonna be sunshine and rainbows. I'm serious, I'm curious as to their point. I've also read a study where they said that disclaimers actually do more harm than good because it immediately puts sensitive people on edge because they assume the worst right off the bat and it leaves them anxious the entire time as opposed to dealing with the information as it comes. And if there is information about some thing you find horrifying, what is it about being told that it's in there that helps? Either way you are still being told about the topic. I'm genuinely curious.

@bric3842 "Not only that, the disclaimer helps the channel avoid legal action or claims of racism/promoting violence. " And that's the rub. Fear. Fear of lawyers. That's really what this is about. Fear of lawyers and fear of the Leftist Mob ruining them for something they clearly don't endorse. They are the worst. Anyone who accuses someone of condoning any historical fact they express is an idiot who should not be taken seriously, yet here we are. Personally I wouldn't be bothered if they said they condoned the Nazi's completely. It would be their opinion and they are entitled to it. The ACLU used to literally defend Nazi's who wanted to march because it was free speech and I agree. I don't have to like what you're saying in order for me to think. you should be able to say it.

@802SlowedSolutions the pathetic part is that studies have shown that trigger warnings do more harm than good because they make people who are particularly sensitive to a subject even more anxious because they start learning about the subject in a way that already has them on edge. It's the stupidest thing. What's really sad is that snowflake culture won't go away until hard times create a society that couldn't care less about the little things because they have much bigger problems. Such as the way of things unfortunately.
