This might explain why you the roll of friction is overstated in the video. It's actually not necessary at all. You can frame by frame clips of certain people doing really high ollies without ever turning their foot, and in fact the board is separated from their front foot except for one brief moment where it taps it on the way up to simply to stop it from going end over end. To put a finer point on it, explain a pop shove to me and friction is required to make the board go up. The front foot is there to level the board out to stop the rotation. Of course friction CAN be used, but it's not necessary.
