  1. Is it confidence your lack, or fresh inspiration? When you are excited enough about something, you forget all about whatever that "confidence" thingy is all about and you just rush into it because you want to, not because you are brave.

I don't know what he actually meant by it, but when Steve Jobs said "Good artists borrow, great artists steal" to me it means that you start with someone else's idea (borrow), but then you take what's there and make it your own (steal). You own it now. It's not somebody else's idea anymore, it's your own thing.

Outside influences are almost always a major factor in greatness, often directly but always at least indirectly. Just look at biomimicry for the most blatant examples. Steve Jobs once gave a speech about it to a grad class. Pay attention to the whole world, not just your own bubble. I once had a full out racist, misogynist bigot help heavily influence my ideas on objectivity and I'm eternally grateful to him for unintentionally revealing truths to me about the how "right" and "wrong" are just concepts as opposed to absolutes.
