That would be terrible, showing on both sides. Douglas would quickly become smug and condescending, and Bassem would be yelling and ranting and raving like a lunatic. It would not be constructive. It would be strictly entertainment, because Douglas is a little too fervently on the other side of this issue.

@Attham bingo. Everyone gets so angry when the interviewer doesn’t pound the table for their side. How about the interviewer just do their best to get as much information out of the interview as possible? Sunshine. Bring their ideas to light and let the chips fall where they may.

I was hoping that if there was one person that could get this guy to calm down and stop trying to put on a show in every interview it would be KK. I was wrong. This guy is an absolute lost cause and does not deserve to be interviewed ever again. This I think is bad enough that in a world full of sane, people would cost him his career as a pundit and commentator. He should go back to just doing stand-up.

I’m only about five minutes in and this guy is absolutely insufferable. What an intellectually dishonest thing to totally avoid the first question. I wish KK would’ve asked him what he would’ve done as Israel’s Prime Minister if he was elected into power on October 7. if he suddenly found himself as the leader of the country, because a wizard made him so, what would he do. To not even want to come close to answering the question just shows how intellectually and morally hollow he is. Constantine was obviously trying to play a game of theoretical, but he was having none of it. How do you take someone like that seriously?

It was productive and so much is it exposed Bassem for who he really is. In other interviews he was always trying to put on a show. I thought if anybody could actually get him to sit down and really truly talk about the issue in a serious manner it would be on this podcast, but this guy showed he’s absolutely incapable of it. That’s not nothing.

@BrickBreaker21 no they shouldn’t. I disagree completely. Sunshine is the best disinfectant. I’m so sick of everybody wanting interviewers to be in on the argument. How about just letting people say their piece? Why does everything have to be a confrontation? Just get someone’s perspective and let the chips fall where they may. And they do push back a little bit. How many times did they try to get an answer out of him about what he would do if he was Israel’s Prime Minister and he just threw a hissy fit right away. There is no good faith argument from someone like that. All you can do is try to get the most out of them you can and call it a day

It absolutely blows my mind that this guy is so prominent, and gets to sit down with so many prominent people, because he is absolutely captured by ideology, and unwilling to entertain any viewpoint other than his own, even just as an intellectual theoretical exercise.

@alanw18 it’s not a trap at all. He was openly condemning the response, so KK wanted to know what he would’ve done differently. Imagine a wizard made him Prime Minister that day. What would he have done? but he simply refused to even engage on it. It was hard to listen to. He’s not at all interested in having an intellectual debate. He truly believes that in this issue one side is all good and the other is all evil. You can’t reason with ideologues. That’s the interesting thing about this whole conflict. Both sides are quite reprehensible. If there was an obvious good side and bad side, all the sensible people would be on the same side of the issue but that’s not what’s happened at all. I’ve never seen such a contentious issue across the board. That should tell you something.

Same here. It’s unfortunate that it seems like nobody is really willing to have an honest conversation about any contentious topic anymore. Try and find an honest conversation about the environment or Covid or any science for that matter, or about intersectionalism, or basically anything at this point. I don’t really have opinions on anything because I can’t find real information. It’s so frustrating. And here’s the thing everyone forgets: almost everyone has seen a news article about something they know quite a bit about, and those news articles never absolutely nail the facts. They always get some pertinent things wrong, so what makes people think that it’s not like that with every story? There’s always stuff we don’t know, yet we’re perfectly willing to have extremely rigid ideas about these things that we know next to nothing about.

@AfroGaz71 very few people are willing to be honest in this argument? That implies that there are indeed, people willing to be honest. Can you point me to one? I literally haven’t seen a single one this entire time from anyone who is knowledgable and to me, it just shows that both sides are the bad guy. i’ve never seen an issue quite like this or absolutely nobody wants to have an objective discussion. Everyone pounds the table for one side or another and it’s as far as I’m concerned, they can take their battle of the book clubs, and leave it where it is and North America should stay the hell out of it. Thousands of years of conflict and it will continue forever as long as you have religious extremists.

I’m so sick of hearing about this conflict. Everybody on both sides has an entire argument that boils down to “yeah but they killed OUR kids.” I’m completely convinced there is no good guy in this war. I think there’s only a lesser of evils.

I think, exposing this clown is a very productive thing. If you go into every interview in good faith, you either learn more about the subject, or you learn more about the person who is formally deemed worthy of an interview.

@notsoshore1 99.9% of people have zero idea what's going on. I'm one of them. Same with Ukraine. Bassem has personal experience but he is unable to talk about it in any manner that's not like a petulant brat which is really unfortunate. I have no idea what Douglas Murray's insight is.
1
@TheAlbinoskunk The next pro palestinian who says "History didn't start on Oct 7" is going to make me scream. That argument goes both ways, dummy. This is a conflict between two book clubs that has been going on for thousands of years.
1
@nfzeta128 The conflict isn't religious? You truly believe that if neither Quran, nor the old testament were written that things would be unfolding in the exact same manner? You truly believe that in your heart of hearts?

I only made it 10 minutes into it. After this guy refused to answer the question about what he would do if he was Prime Minister, I had to tap out. There have been a tax by both sides, going back to the formation of the country. He gets mad that everybody puts a starting date of October 7, but both sides can play that game. Both sides have done stuff back-and-forth for decades. For him to not even be willing to remotely engage in that conversation shows what an intellectual low resolution, lightweight coward, he is. I wish KK would’ve asked him what he would do if a wizard suddenly made him Prime Minister on October 8, and he had nothing to do with anything that went on before that. The fact of the matter is, it happened, and the question was just about what would be expected of a country who faced an attack like that, deserved or not

@kooshanjazayeri "what makes this situation so complex do you think?" I think both sides leave a lot to be desired. I'm mostly on the side of Israel based largely on the heuristic of seeing the behaviour of one side vs the other. I find in most issues, the people who are more rational and measured and sensible are on the right side. I'm willing to bet a lot of money that 99.9% of protesters don't actually understand what's going on. Watching interviews with them and they almost never know many of the basic pertinent facts. I'm Canadian and have no close ties to the region so what the hell do I know? Anybody who doesn't have close personal ties and personal interactions with that area has no idea and should shut their mouths for the most part. That said, the pro palestinian crowds are absolutely reprehensible and I can't imagine being on the side of such awful people. They are violent and they threaten to kill people and they aren't at all engaging in any of this civilly. I can't imagine a more low resolution way of thinking than always being against the more powerful side in every argument, no matter what forever and ever, as if might makes wrong by definition.
1
Does he say that? I couldn’t make it that far into the interview. The intellectual dishonesty was way too over the top. If he’s honestly suggesting that if there were no Jews in the area that it would be peaceful he’s out of his mind. There are so many Muslim groups that Violently attack and kill other Muslim groups. They may as well blame white supremacy in America while they’re at it.

A debate between him and Douglas would just get ugly quickly. Douglas is way too one-sided on this issue on the other side as well. I don’t think either of them would be willing to be honest.
