You might be onto something. If they just referred to it by screen size and made a point of mentioning how it was the same spec, people would probably still be down. The older small iPhones were always reduced spec, and I bet you people thought that the minis were an SE type deal. Apple couldn't of botched them any worse. In Canada they released the 12 mini several weeks later than the regular iPhone so it's no surprise most people who really wanted to upgrade already did. Then I talked to so many people who mentioned wanting a smaller phone and I showed him mine and they were surprised because they didn't even know it existed.

@heylliott I prefer the smaller phones for two reasons: one, I do the vast majority of stuff on my phone with one hand, and the bigger phones are simply too big for that. I am in extreme danger of dropping my phone every time I try and do anything. Also, I skateboard, and doing all that, jumping and moving around with a full size phone in my pocket, makes it feel like I have an iPad in there and it's really frustrating. Also, the mini phone is invisible when I walk down the street when it's in my pocket, but the bigger phones actually have a little bit of outline on my leg and I think it looks funny.

I just bought a used 13 mini that still has AppleCare and I'm happy you can buy yearly AppleCare now, so I'm gonna keep mine until it is too slow to be functional. I figure another three or four years at least.

I will use my 13 mini until it's too slow to be practical for anything. I'm so mad Apple got rid of it. I firmly believe it's because it cost them a little bit more to make the smaller phone, the same way as before smart phones, it used to be the small phones that were more expensive. At least in Canada, Apple didn't really advertise the mini and I can't tell you how many people have complained about the size of phones and I showed him mine and they're blown away. They don't know it exists.

In Canada, they didn't really advertise the mini, and the 12 mini came out almost a month after the other phone so people who wanted a new iPhone went out and bought one. I've had a ton of people complain about the size of phones and then I showed him mine and they're super surprised because they didn't know small ones even existed. Call me tinfoil hat, but I believe that it costs just a little bit more to pack everything into the small size and Apple doesn't like the margin. I've believe that Steve Jobs would've kept it in the lineup and not gone for a tiny fraction of profit margin.

I I'd usually have something in my other hand, and I always use my phone with one hand so when I eventually have to get a bigger phone, it's going to come pleat Lee mess with my productivity. It's not my fault I wasn't born 6 feet tall with monster hands.

I refused to get a bigger phone so I was ecstatic when the 12 mini came out because I was still rocking a 5s.

@Loanshark753 yeah that's the only thing I miss on my mini. I'm a big photo guy. I was on vacation once with a backpack with $15,000 worth of camera gear, and a large sensor compact in my pocket that was a little bit bulky so hard to take out of my pocket, and most of my photos were taken with my cell phone anyway, ha ha.

@afrog2666 "crApple doesn`t want you to keep anything for 5 years lol" Say what you want about Apple, but there's absolutely no denying that their products are all extremely high-end. I still use a 2012 MacBook Pro for certain tasks. I'll never understand why certain people are so anti-Apple, and the fact that anybody else buys Apple just infuriates him. It's strange because the reverse doesn't happen. No Apple person gives a damn about Samsung either way. Regardless, all Apple products are high-end. There's none of them that become obsolete instantly because they're too slow or have terrible build quality.

Yeah, the iPhone 12 was the least successful phone of all time but you're omitting the reason: it was released weeks later! Everyone that was clamouring for a new phone bought the new one when it came out. I can't tell you how many people I know that I've never heard of it. I've had several people tell me they wish they could get a smaller phone and I show them mine and they are surprised. Apple did not advertise the mini in Canada properly at all. I don't believe that Apple wanted to do a small phone. I firmly believe that it costs them just a little bit more to make everything in the smaller package, like how old cell phones used to cost more if they were tiny, and that's why they purposely killed it. I think they set it up for failure so they can satisfy the people who were whining about a small phone, and they could give them a reason as to why it didn't work. I firmly believe that because I've had so many people who were impressed with my phone, who didn't know it existed. I don't know what I'm gonna do when my 13 mini is finally too slow to use because the other ones are simply too big for me. I type everything with one hand because I'm very busy at work and I've always got something in my other hand, and I can't use ia bigger one with one hand. Plus when I'm doing athletic things I'm listening to music, but the big phone is so awkward in my pocket. It drives me insane. It feels like a friggin tablet.

You're not wrong, but the same argument also works in reverse. You compromise one-handed use with many people and you compromise the small form factor when you get all the extra bells and whistles.
