What's the crime? She told people the actual laws. It makes me sad that people are so ideologically driven that they don't mind being hypocrites. I guarantee you would lose it if the exact same thing happened to a republican. You can't prosecute people for giving legal advice. Doesn't matter who that advice given to. By the logic of everyone in this comment section, every defense attourney should go to jail for defending criminals. In those cases, it would be even worse because they're being paid to defend criminals.

I hate to say it, but I 100% agree with AOC here. I think her letter is bang on. It was a scumbag move for her to help illegals, but she said things that were the law. You can't prosecute people for stating the law just because it hurts what you want done. I want the illegals gone too, but what she did is protected. She's not scared in the least. She didn't try to "justify" what she said. She went on the attack because she knows it's a bs accusation. Again, she was morally in the wrong with what she said but legally in the right, and the law must stand for something, even when it's frustrating.

@ You are also missing something in your argument. An apostrophe. Stay in school, genius.

Ā @mattmarzulaĀ correct.

@ I'd already made my point, and made it correctly.

It's illegal to give legal advice? She's an idiot, but this letter is correct. You can't start prosecuting people for giving legal advice just because of who the advice was given to. Either the rule of law means something or it doesn't.

Ā @ICU-mw7suĀ "They must possess a law degree & pass the BAR to dispense legal advice!" This is incorrect on a level so ridiculous I'm ashamed to be replying about it. Telling someone what the current laws on the books are is certainly not exclusive to lawyers. Was that seriously your argument?! Telling your friend (who you witnessed rob a liquor store) that they don't have to talk to a cop and can remain silent until they see a lawyer is legal advice on how the system works. Is that a crime? FFS š¤¦āā

Ā @jacobnyhart6862Ā It's not obstruction if it's legal. It's no different than telling your friend who has a house full of cocaine that they should ask to see a warrant if Johnny Law knocks at their door.
