@EveIsJustMyBlogName it sucks that they get incredibly overprescribed, because it overshadows stories like yours. These drugs absolutely do have a place and they do help some people. On a lark, I went to see a psychiatrist, and literally within 15 minutes he diagnosed me with anxiety disorder and tried to get me on medication. If you knew me, you know, I certainly don't have an anxiety disorder. At all. He seemed to ask a bunch of follow-up questions that were there to confirm his original guess. I filled out no questionnaires, and he asked me very little about my life. It blew my mind how quickly he came to that conclusion and he seemed to ask question after question trying to purposely find validation for the idea that I should be medicated. It was the strangest thing. It's like how doctors always try to get me to take drugs, and I refuse, and the issue usually goes away on its own anyway.

Tom's message would've been very well received if he would've left out that one line. It was that one line that made him seem crazy.

That teacher should be fired immediately. That's disgusting that a teacher will try to advocate drugs for the kids simply because it would make their own life easier. To hell with them.

I had a dentist actually get mad at me because I refused to take pain killers he handed to me after taking out my wisdom teeth. "What if you wake up at 3AM in pain?" "That'll be MY problem to deal with. Don't worry, you've offered them to me multiple times now. You're covered. I won't come back and blame you for my pain". Pain never really came. It was no big deal.

@StopTheWorld65 I never made the connection with being late because of ADHD and hyper focus but that makes perfect sense. The scariest thing for me is being completely ready to go 35 minutes before I actually have to leave. I inevitably get really into something and end up running out the door and speeding to try and get to my destinations.

I'm Canadian and I can get sent to all the specialists I want and all the doctors I want that will prescribe me all the drugs that I want, free on the government dime. But if I wanna go to any medical professional, that doesn't administer drugs, I have to open my wallet wide. It's so gross.

Farm kids are less afraid of the world than inner-city kids. It's just the way it is. When I was a little kid, I was in a small town, and I had a big knife when I was really young, shot guns when I was really young, and I learn how to handle these things. Never had an incident in any capacity. Let kids learn to manage risk instead of being afraid of everything.

Tom gets one thing incredibly wrong though. He says there's no such thing as a chemical imbalance. That's completely incorrect. He goes way too far in saying that. There are people who do drugs help immensely because they do what they're supposed to do. The problem is that they prescribe them to every kid that can't sit perfectly still during class.

Box office revenues are what cancel people. If his movies pack 'em in, he'll get to keep making them. It really is that simple.

@hannaheye though in fairness to the teachers, we have all imagined ways to slow the little pricks down at some point or another when they are driving us nuts, ha ha. Then again, we didn’t all choose to go into a profession where we were surrounded by them eight hours a day.

19 years ago, not 10. We're getting old, Dave.

I'm not a fan of the guy and I honestly don't even think he's that good of an actor, but he's been a A list celebrity for longer than anyone else I can think of, and he had no fall off during that time. He's been as big as it gets since Risky Business. That's 40 years of sustained success. I don't get it, I don't get his appeal in the very least, but I can't deny his status.
