  1. I definitely believe there were Africans promoting themselves, much the same way there are voluntary mail-order brides. Doesn't mean they Africans weren't lied to about what they'd encounter tho. I'm sure some were pumped to go because the Brits told them it would be sunshine and rainbows, and I'm sure they were horrified when they found out what the real deal was.
