You know you need to work on your sentimentality when a mathematician says it's beautiful that we're all related and I'm like "Meh".

The difference between you and these researchers is that you actually have experience doing the thing they are studying so you know that there are other factors at play here besides a coin toss. Some athletes have talked about famous sports moments and said they don't really remember doing the thing, like they were just on auto pilot when it happened and sorta blacked out for a second. To deny that a "zone" exists is just ignorant.

Fractals won't make it infinitely large, but that doesn't change the fact that if you have a 1 atom long ruler, that coastline could very well be absolutely unbelievably long.

Would you measure the "coastline" of a pair of scissors that were just a few degrees open? You'd be off by more than a third. Why should a coastline be different if it has a ton of inlets?

That's exactly where my brain went when I learned this system and it helped it make sense to me and a native English speaker.

You'd have to measure the coastline all at once because tides, evaporation, even rain will change the size constantly.

Canada has another problem: What is "coastline"? Have fun with that where there is permanent ice in the north. You can live permanently on the ice, but not on "land"?

Or in Adams. Pick one and measure his height. That's your ruler.

I've seen 'official' measurements for coastlines that are wildly different. I mean 2-3x different.

Oddly satisfying video

Many words can't be used in specific groupings. Same with sounds. This is a logical extension. You are also allowed to thrust a sharp knife forward in your own home as much as you want.....unless another person is already in the location you want to do that stabbing motion. That means the stabbing motion in and of itself isn't a crime.
