Rice/beans, but that's not animal so it's ignored even though it's one of the most widely eaten complete proteins in the world. Instead he talked about white bread/peanut butter.

Eat as wide a variety of foods as possible in as natural a form as you can. That's it. People over think it and stress themselves out.

@FDP.. "The only complete vegetable protein is soy and if you didn't already know its an endocrine disruptor." I'm extremely suspect on the negative attention soy gets. I mean, it's THE meat substitute, and also happens to be the ONLY extremely maligned whole food. That's too much of a coincidence for me to ignore. Could it be a coincidence? Sure. Is it? I dunno. I'm highly suspicious. It's one of those "follow the money" type deals for me.

Great point. I'd love to see a deep dive into that. It's like how people say you HAVE to have fish oil. No you don't. You can get the same thing directly from the source. You can buy algae oil grown in filtered water. No mercury, no microplastics etc.

@emmameeker6639 I found it weird he didn't mention rice/beans specifically for this very reason. Plus, they are dirt cheap foods if you buy them in dry bulk, and a great way to get your protein if you are on a budget.

@d.bcooper2271 RIP for the vegans....except for all the healthy ones. They exist, yet for some reason people run around insisting they can't. It's the strangest thing to deny the reality all around you every day. Soon as vegans stop living past 75 and are fat and gross, we can revisit this.

I'm vegetarian and I stopped all supplements and just ate "normal" for 6 months before getting a nutritional profile done. I was fine right across the board, and I eat OK but by no stretch am I health obsessed.

Yeah that's so weird. Look at all those short 100+ Japanese. Height is irrelevant.

@HailtotheThief21 "if they didn't get meet the minimum protein requirements while they were growing, they won't grow to their full potential, aka be shorter." Is there anything inherently less healthy about being shorter?

As a vegetarian, I laugh that people are freaking about bugs. Not sure how a rib is perfectly fine but a bug is gross. If it's about nutrition, then why do you care what the source is? It's even funnier from people who kill bugs all the time but could never bring themselves to slit the throat of a chicken or kill a cow. I think if you can't bring yourself to kill it, then you shouldn't eat it.

2:30 those two things can both be true, and I'm sure are. Quality would matter in both countries.

" I don't understand how you can call soy a "whole food" when it needs to be processed with heat or fermentation to even be digestible. " Rice is not a whole food? Beans aren't whole foods? I feel you and I have a different version of what whole food means. The overwhelming amount of food ever consumed by humans has been cooked. Corn and potatoes are technically edible but unappetizing if raw. Are they still raw foods? @tinknal6449

Asians have been eating soy forever. They say soy hurts reproduction. Last I checked the number of Asians was just fine. OdinsSage
