  1. Everybody is flawed so it's interesting to hear the true stories. In fiction I absolutely love flawed heroes. That's why I liked the hunger games so much. They certainly didn't try to glorify the main character.

  2. Great summary. It definitely was unpredictable. The jumping around part helped with that as well. At one point it was just randomly mentioned that he had a wife and child.

  3. It always bothered me that in school I learnt that in such and such year this kingdom attacked that kingdom, blah blah blah, but I never learnt about life of the average person. Even as a kid, I thought that was ridiculous. I would never need to know the exact year someone came to power but I could perhaps glean some insight about the way the world works if I understood how life worked for the average person way back when.

  4. I was recently lamenting how poorly history is taught in Canadian schools. All I learned about was this or that battle in this or that king, but I didn't learn about how the average person lived way back. I didn't have a good understanding of what life was like in general.
