Daniel Mandrake this wasn’t really a discussion. This was Bernie giving long form platitudes. It’s the same answers he give in those debates, just using more words. Judging by the comments I was expecting a nuanced and articulate man that was going to go far beyond what the headlines said about him. That didn’t happen at all. This entire ramble of his could’ve been two minutes long and it would’ve not surprised anybody. He basically said he wants to throw a bunch of money at problems and make the rich pay for it. We already knew that. Name me one single thing that was said about how Bernie would run things that surprised you in any capacity whatsoever.

Saying you’d rather have Canada’s healthcare system is basically just saying you’d rather be slapped in the face then punched in the face. Neither are anything to be proud of.

Matt T don’t forget that it’s completely bankrupt and has been for a tremendous amount of time. Google the top countries for healthcare in the world and Canada never ranks even close to the top of the list. I don’t know how we have this reputation. Given the amount of resources we throw at it, our healthcare system is a fucking joke. The fact that it’s political suicide to even discuss how to improve the system and make it more efficient is just proof that Canadians don’t care and our heads are up our own asses because we think we’re so great already so no questions can be asked.

Nathan Prescott The world is bigger than you and Nathan. Your own particular doctor literally has zero to do with when you get to see a specialist. Your personal experience is irrelevant compared to this giant system and the way it works. Go tell people that are literally dying on waiting lists that the system works just fine and if they had a better doctor they would get to see somebody in a week. There are hundreds of different conditions a person can have and a giant plethora of specialities so your comment is extremely narrow. Expand your horizons a little bit.

Sylian wow, another person in this thread who takes their one individual experience and thinks that that is a representation of the system as a whole. Do some research and look at all the people dying on waiting lists and losing jobs and homes because of the amount of time waiting for specialist. The world is much larger than you.

Boolie how did you come to that conclusion? He said exactly the same things in this interview that he says in every interview and I highly doubt that you were surprised by any of it so I’m very curious to know what changed your mind.

cygnusx555 that’s rather vague. What specifically are you talking about? You certainly can’t be talking in general terms because it’s empirically quantifiable that the whole world has never been better than it is today so I’m wondering what specifically has you so down that your only comment would be about misery.

@sambarnes3276 Bingo. I didn't want the "what", I wanted the "how". Blank statements like "The rich will pay" is such a fluff-level platitude. I wanted to know the truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth but instead I got soundbites about McD's workers with kids and how evil Wall St is. The world, and especially finance is much, much more complicated than that. To not discuss consequences to policies is to basically pretend the world is black and white. To act like you can just take zillions of bucks away from people and the only consequence is that you now have way more money to Robin Hood away is in denial of reality.

Thomas Howell he said he wanted to do healthcare like Canada and he is fucking insane. Canadian healthcare is a joke. It’s literally bankrupt and the waiting list are so long for so many things that people die on them because you legally aren’t allowed to spend your money to get something done privately. I don’t care if it’s better than the American system, it’s still absolutely pathetic. I’ve been through it several times and I’m telling you that there are other countries that give a vastly superior level of care. For the amount of resources thrown out our healthcare system it’s an absolute national fucking embarrassment and go look at lists right now, Google list of countries of the best healthcare systems in Canada doesn’t even rank in the ballpark of the top (so you know it’s not just one idiot spouting off).
