Comments by "Jason Dashney" (@jasondashney) on "Stephen Pinker on What Has Happened to Being Rational" video.
I came to the comments to see if I was the only one who felt this way. I am cripplingly objective so stuff like this sticks out like a sore thumb to me. In University I had to watch videos exactly like this, they were supposed to be about being rational but everything they talked about was definitely from a single, specific perspective. I normally really like Steven Pinker but I lost a tremendous amount of respect for him in this video. I would love to be able to ask him to address our concerns directly because maybe he would totally agree that it didn’t come out the way he intended. Maybe he would kind of cringe and figure that he can see why we would feel that way about his interview. I think my biggest problem with the modern left, and academia in general is that it has a point of view view that it doesn’t seem to realize is a point of view. It’s as though the beliefs they have are objective reality and everything else is just craziness and wrong. There’s a smugness to it that really gets on my nerves much more than the prevailing attitude on the right.

I think academic intellectuals from the big city really underestimate the ingenuity and intelligent as it takes to be a successful farmer. If you learn the exact same skills from Brown University he would respect it, ha ha.

@Chaelsonen If you want to tell me HOW I'm full of crap, then I'm all ears. Otherwise you are just like the modern leftists: personal insults instead of actual rational points. That's why the modern leftists are so irritating to me. You typically only see that behaviour on the right from the extremes. The far left and far right are basically twins, but as you move towards the centre, the right is much more rational and evidence based. I'm sure you'll take that as me saying I'm right wing though, and dismiss me as such. So be it.

@Chaelsonen Name one. Be specific. No buzzphrases, no insults. Just facts. If I'm dead wrong with literally everything I said, then I need a clearer understanding. What specifically did I say that's cripplingly subjective. And you said ever, so please highlight them all. Thank you.

I hope he recognizes that and regret saying it because he’s smart enough to know that that came out very poorly. We all say things that we know aren’t worded very well and I hope he did the same because…..oof.
