  1. He makes a point in the interview about the expression if you aren’t liberal when you’re young you have no heart and if you aren’t conservative when you’re old you have no brain. His reaction to it illustrates everything I hate about liberals. His takeaway from that expression was that you’re supposed to care about people less and use your heart less you get older. That’s why liberals irritate me way more than conservatives. It’s the smugness I find so repulsive. The point of the expression is that you have to be pragmatic and you don’t understand this until you get some years under your belt and you realize it can’t be done in this idealized way you pictured when you were younger. It’s so arrogant, the common liberal attitude. They think in terms of morality with absolutely everything I am they will very often equate pragmatic decisions that are uncomfortable but do have to be made, with being “bad”. The worst part about it is he starts out by saying there’s probably some truth to it. Which means he gets the jist but just can’t help himself but to toss the wisdom aside and assume it’s a morality play instead of a pragmatic one.
