If outraged people spent as much time and energy helping trans people in real life as they spend on outrage online, it would more than counterbalance any negative effect you assume.

False equivalence arguments encourage bad actors to continue pushing the boundary to see what they can get away with. Russia broke that promise, which meant the other signing countries had to fulfill the promise of security assurances. Russia did not have to sign, but they did. Now Russia is facing backlash, just like any promise breaker. If Russia was more responsible, dependable, reliable, solid and true, they would be more secure and respected.

"Russia failed to protect its relatives" is tired and dishonest. They tried the same scam when they broke the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca in 1783 by invading the Crimean Khanate after promising to leave the Crimean Tatars alone, who were there since the 1200's as part of the Golden Horde.
