@MrNajibrazak That sounds overly romanticized view of Bangkok vs Tokyo

@fabiank.2415 I thought being unemploxed was illegal in industrious Germany?

@katzuy5093 Why assume? Assuming is lazy.

@Lurch You get to go out and live it up when you're unemployed. That's how dirtbagger climbers, skiers or other outdoorsman live cheaply, without normal employment, and with few amenities in order to spend as much time on their sport as possible. If you are unemployed and without a passion pursuit, that's on you.

@evansmusic2009 Anyone pushed out of home by a diaspora is not privileged. Only being able to stay home unaffected by declining conditions is privilege.

@evansmusic2009 Roman put in far more work into his channel than you put into yours. You sound bitter that he's rewarded for his hard work. He's learned new languages, editing, sound. How many music videos have you put out in the 14 years you've had your music channel? You are not empathetic to Thais. You are condescending to them. Just like you look down at Roman. How does someone as privileged as you not understand how self-absorbed you are?

@tylerphuoc2653 Your "Look, "privilege" serves multiple functions in this circumstance; no one is saying that he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth" is typical pecking order mentality. Someone called you out on this and your earlier "It's more disrespectful to him to claim that he doesn't have a status above others" statement, that you feel the need to reframe the narrative instead of admitting your own status fixation.

@evansmusic2009 Roman isn't "maintaining" a place in Georgia. He shares an apartment with other Russians to help his friends get on their feet in Georgia when they left in September even though he left around six months earlier near February. That's empathy and friendship.

@leigh7507 Full time Youtube is a job. It's another form of entertainer, like actor, musician, writer.

@McFwoupson TX sounds more like a cyberpunk dystopia. It's illegal to buy Teslas in Texas but they'll gladly make them for export.

@foochs "36.5 times more likely to be robbed in the USA" sounds suspiciously over-specific BS. How do overgeneralize such a large country? Or randomly claim "some places that can be a bit shady in the dead of night but those places are a hundred miles away from Bangkok" without any evidence? Isn't it true that you're 36.5 times more likely to be robbed in a city since that's where the people are most concentrated?

@hydrailce3404 He can't return the next year if he cannot renew his passport. Bakhmut is becoming a yearly event too.

You should visit Chiang Mai, the capital of the Lan Na Kingdom (now northern Thailand).

Arizona hasn't completely legalized weed. No US state has. You can still lose a job in Arizona to a drug test.

@evansmusic2009 There are billions of people more privileged than Roman. If you think Roman is not on a budget, you are mistaken. Unlike Russians, cash does come easy for most people in the European Union. The cost of staying in Georgia is less than some Americans spend on Starbucks or fast food each month. The cost of an place in New York City is far more than his place or even this trip cost. He's not on holiday in Thailand. This is a business trip. He's making content for his living.
1
@lapatti you can compare the cost of living in two complete different countries. Companies do it all the time. Even governments have Cost-of-Living Adjustments for their military bases around the world. You can say he's not living paycheck to paycheck compared to most of his peers, but when someone says "privileged" it comes with an added implicit notion of "deserving or not deserving" from the speaker. Saying he is able to make a living does not have the same notion.

@Anita-k But aren't those on Arbeitslosenhilfe / Sozialhilfe / Arbeitslosengeld I & II / Hartz I, II, III and IV looked down upon and belittled by their neighbors for being socially disreputable? Bewegung Morgenlicht threatened and executed attacks in protest against government policy symbolized by Hartz IV. Hartz IV was changed into Bürgergeld in January 2023. So maybe it is slightly more illegal now?
