@strapamotortoit The Soviet Union accepted $11 billion in aid from US Lend-Lease, so how are they different from Ukraine?

@provisionalhypothesis There's ALWAYS a choice. If Ukraine loses the war, it becomes an irregular conflict like Northern Ireland during The Troubles. If Ukrainians were willing to march through police sniper gunfire to the Parliment during Euromaidan, why would they give up now? Unless Russia embarks on a Holocaust in Ukraine, they can't pacify Ukraine.

@zorrofox8950 60% of all semiconductor-grade neon comes from Ukraine. After Russia invaded, neon prices went up 600%. That's why chips of all kinds from graphics cards to missle guidance has got more expensive the last three years. "not really rare" misses the point. If Ukraine wins, they can drop prices back down, making everything cheaper, be it grain or computer chips.

@jorgemunozburgos4401 nuclear power doesn't win wars. Look at Vietnam War. Or Afghanistan, twice. Ukraine is the largest country contained in Europe. They have the space to do anything France, Germany or UK can do. They've shown repeatedly how much Russia underestimated them.

@Brodahn Yes, look at history. The Troubles in Northern Ireland lasted 30 years with a group that had "no real power". Or the Irish independance before that. How did Ireland become free when it had no "real power"? Or the slave revolt in Haiti that gained its independence?

@jorgemunozburgos4401 Crimea was its own country for centuries. They signed the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca in 1774, a peace treaty with Russia, which Russia violated when they invaded Crimea in 1783. 200 years after the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, Russia signed the 1994 Budapest Memorandum with Ukraine, which Russia also broke by invading to steal land.

@BTinSF Israel has been the largest recipient of United States aid since the 1970s. How long would Israeli "capacity for self-defense" last without US military aid?
1
@jorgemunozburgos4401 There was no promise about not expanding NATO. This is well-documented in the book Not One Inch by M. E. Sarotte. A suggestion from a diplomat is not the same as a promise from a President. President Bush told Baker "HELL NO"

@Brodahn No, that's how you want it to be. But you aren't the Main Character here.

@BTinSF Ukrainians are an extraordinary tough people. They've been fighting Russia for 10 years, only the last 3 years with outside help. They fought the 1917 Ukrainian-Soviet War for four years, against three armies (Red Army, Russian White Army and Poland) aka Ukrainian Death Triangle, without any outside help. It took Germany to force them out of the war.

@BTinSF Israel has a booming economy due to being #1 in US aid for decades. How would Israel look if only got the aid that Ukraine got?
1
@BTinSF Or Israelis would turn on each other, just like Israelis assassinated their own prime minister for attempting peace talks. Ukraine isn't that vicious.

@VAXXINHARDCORE Russia should give Kaliningrad back to Poland.
