  2. Something, like ordinary history, tells me you're not going to mention one of my Scottish ancestors. He helped Japan set up the Bank of Japan and negotiated the Hundred Year Lease of Hong Kong. After the Opium War, another one of my ancestors was the only "white person" the Chinese worked with. They gave him ocean-side property so he could help them escape the worst excesses of European colonization.
