  1. I was writing a music column for my Niagara Peninsula newspaper, when Weather Report played Kleinhans in Buffalo. I went with a date. There was no backstage anything, and the bar was closed for everyone else. Wayne Shorter and Josef Zawinul were feuding, what everyone said. For the show, they would be onstage to play the opening, and then they would walk offstage, coming back to end it. The rest of the time it was the Jaco Pastorius show, jamming for ten or fifteen minutes with the two drummers up on a second tier. Jaco had a show, doing slow motion moves with difficult balances, a total surprise for a supposed jazzer.
