It's usual to say it's a once in a hundred years event, as a way to justify worse weather. Now it's a once in a thousand year event, even if record-keeping didn't exist back then.

@irenafarm I think the use of a new term, "a thousand year event", is a cover-up, making it seem this new weather is ordinary. Again, you literally can't say that because no record-keeping existed a thousand years ago. When the rain stings and breathing air hurts, are you going to be happy when they say it's a once in a million year event?

@irenafarm You don't understand. Saying thousand year anything is just making up a generic way to describe current weather, as if it's normal. It's so generic you have to admit no human records of weather go back a thousand years. There is modern speculation, there is scientific evidence, but the earth has shifted on its axis since then, temperatures have been rising, and new weather has been happening. When the Great Lakes Erie and Ontario didn't freeze over one winter, we didn't see it as a thousand year event. They didn't freeze the next year or any year after that, now having warm winters. Even the birds knew that, stopping their southern migrations.
