  2. I can see your scientific disconnect from a pre-electronic society. When books first came out, people would accuse people who were reading a book of being hypnotized or consumed by a devil. The couldn't understand how someone could sit and stare at a book for hours. When sewing machines took jobs away from humans, those that were revolted were called Luddites.
