  2. Don't forget you live in the United States. Pornography and gun violence were banned for national television, until "movie channels" came on TV, now showing content with pornography and violence. No-one around here debated about a movie being shown on TV as being a movie or a TV show.

What you are trying to describe is called looking at the grotesque, or being unable to look away from the grotesque. It can get crazy, people gathering to watch someone hang to death or be burned at the stake.
