I'd like to describe an artistic and historic graphic art that has military origins, the Meta symbol that looks like a sideways number eight. When the Roman Empire decided to become the Holy Roman Empire, they needed a new symbol. They took the Greek symbol for infinity, which isn't eternity, and turned it sideways, looking like a side-ways, stretched out number eight. Romans cut the right side off half-way, saying it also looked like a Jewish fish symbol. It was easy to paint on helmets and shields, one long brush-stroke. Scots called this "holy mackerel", mackerel being a fertilizer fish for them. The Meta symbol is drooping, not a dynamic visual, reminding me of wire handcuffs, and it suits them.
