  1. europe isn't anywhere CLOSE to building it's own starlink. We have no reusable rockets; no cheap rockets; no way to get thousands of satellites into orbit in foreseeable (10+years) future. Networks with dozens of satellites - which is that 'european starling' EU currently planned - are shit compared to starlink on all technical aspects. This is a mercy killing by Meloni. Europe needs to take all money from shitty starlink and move it aggressively into research of reusable rockets, if it wants to have any hope for future. The Italian space agency and governments were studying their own small satellite communications constellation back in 2016, and in 2018 it was decided to take a proper step and officially create a program to make it a reality. It was even called Ital-GovSatCom, an obvious reference to what later became the EU GovSatCom once all the members agreed to the international program and its funding. However, noting has actually happened for that program, we basically haven't heard anything about it since Meloni formed her government. Why? What if she had taken the decision to give SpaceX a contract even before winning the elections and has since been tacitly shutting down any possible alternative to plausibly support her decision?
