On Elon: He displayed quite a bad mood in the beginning of the interview, whatever the reason (not enough rest, annoyed by something or someone in advance), but his mood improved later on. And I think that by "we need to improve" he meant we as people, not "we/SpaceX". Elon was just brutally honest about humanity's rate of innovation and why we have to step up. By the way, his name is pronounced differently - listen to how he's introduced in various events. 😁 On Kimbal: Of course he's set to tackle the food supply chain off-Earth. And to make it happen, he does the research in a financially sustainable way as a business here on Earth. 👍

Now both of you replied to my comments. 😎 Să trăiești! 🙋‍♂️ Why I had the feeling that he meant we (everyone) should innovate faster is that plenty of times he talks about our goals as a civilization and that we should move to sustainable this and that, and so on. I watched the whole interview again and it's also very likely that he specifically meant "we" as SpaceX, especially with him saying near the end of the interview "based on past trends I'm definitely gonna be dead before Mars, so we're going to improve our pace of innovation" - this is obviously about SpaceX. But as the two of you pointed out, he's a sort of an Atlas when it comes to important innovations in recent days. So I wouldn't wonder at all that while being tired and probably in a bad mood he would like others to pick up the slack and do more for a more sustainable living and to head out deeper into space, because sometimes it sucks to be in the lead while having the feeling that the others are not even trying. That's when you're in danger of "getting stuck in a local maximum" - as he put it when asked about the road from the Space Shuttle to the Crew Dragon.
