@tsamuel6224 It was publicly known that Trump talked to Elon about Starlink and that SpaceX would send those in affected areas. FEMA is the one stealing Starlink dishes, according to a SpaceX engineer, so your talk about pirates is utter nonsense in this conversation. FEMA knows what's going on, and they do what they do. It's either you not understanding the problem, or you're a total disgrace.

@SpaceTravel1776 It's a psychological disorder (or maybe just idiocy) to think you know better than those having the data required to estimate how far FSD actually is. Most people on this planet have no better clue than them where FSD is, us included. But even when we talk about them exclusively, this technology cannot be estimated like one would do for a task like building a website or painting a house, because FSD has never been done. We can speculate about it, but clearly not in certain terms because we don't know what they know. I turned off my excitement about FSD a few years ago, when Elon said they got stuck in a local maximum and realized that they needed a new approach. That was enough to make it clear that getting stuck while solving an extremely complex problem is more likely than not. And recently they almost started from scratch by removing over 300K lines of code and replacing them with neural networks and end-to-end training. Who's to say this is the final step and no new local maximum can happen? We don't know, and that's the thing - we don't know either way. But we know from Tesla that they used "shadow mode" to determine how good a newer version of their software fares against human driving. We also know that they've collected FSD disengagements so they can catch edge cases to know what kind of situations require improvement or more training. A lot of things happen on roads, but the more cars get out there and use FSD, the faster the learning process occurs. And thousands of new cars do just that every single month - an increasing fleet that contributes to solving a huge task. I have no idea when it will be ready, though I hope that will be soon because less accidents is a good thing.

@michaeljacksonsghostheehee It doesn't matter who calls whom. FEMA was the disaster within the disaster. SpaceX went there to restore communications, so people can be rescued. Others went there to rescue people, and were threatened with arrest. And all of this while FEMA claimed to offer a pitiful $750 per family, but in reality they denied legitimate requests. When the authority doesn't do a good enough job, the least it can do is allow others to contribute to the effort. Let's keep in mind the glaring issue: a lot of people needed help, and that should've been prioritized over anything else. There should be no room for politics when people's lives are on a countdown.

@michaeljacksonsghostheehee It doesn't look like you understood my earlier point - especially the part about people's lives on a countdown. If you want to nitpick, you can certainly look at the VP's phone call to the governor of Florida, and her pointless complaint to the media that he doesn't care enough, when she wasn't even part of that command chain. The president himself said that the governor was doing a good job and that they were in communication for assistance prior to Milton making landfall. But in contrast to the VPs fake outrage related to Milton, the former president and Elon actually helped with the restoration of communications during Helene, with over 10 thousand Starlink kits. And again, I assume that we can agree that politics should be left aside when people are in dire need for the basics. FEMA did a poor job with Helene, and you can see various affected people complaining about it in videos on social media. It doesn't matter how exactly they budget if they do a good enough job post-disaster, but offering $750/home when some people no longer even have a home, and even rejecting valid claims (displaced people) for financial support, shows incredibly poor management. And because some people in the government understand the emergency, the FCC approved the Starlink Direct to Cell emergency service, so people can use their phones in the affected areas for text messages even without a Starlink dish.

@michaeljacksonsghostheehee The law of the land is supposed to not be stupid in emergency situations. You can even (actually, can you?) leave the two aside and look at how other civilians rescued people with their helicopters, which was great. But they were ultimately threatened with arrest, instead of being officially allowed to assist. FEMA did a poor job, and things could've been done better had they extended the disaster relief by working with the volunteers. You seem to care more about bureaucracy and politics than people's lives. The laws and policies have to allow some form of collaboration with volunteers during disasters. And yes, people should accept the help of billionaires when lives are at stake. SpaceX activated Starlink for free in the disaster area, for a month. It's 100% hypocritical to see people complain about billionaires in general, and when they help in extreme situations they're tarnished for doing so. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
