Imagine calling yourself a tech savvy nerd, but you exclude operating systems just because some people think about them as new user distros. 🤣 If you're a nerd, you don't have to ask in the first place. But even if you do, you're not a tech savvy nerd if you still look at operating systems other than tools for whatever job you want done. No one tells you what to use or not use. You just use what fits your bill. The year doesn't matter. And if you value your time, you will pick one that makes you work less to keep it functional.

@digitalnomad9985 It's totally fine to ask, but it's unrealistic to always expect people to do it. Free and open source software usually evolves by developers working on problems that they're interested in. This is where the users' expectations/requests/hopes clash with what actually happens. It's quite normal for volunteers to use their time how they want when working for a hobby project, instead of doing what others say should be done (a.k.a. regular job). It's because of this why people should follow the projects that largely align with their needs, so that their suggestions are already compatible with the developers' work. New ideas can also be adopted by projects, but that's never a given. People can ask/propose, but whether those ideas materialize in the project, it's up to those volunteering their time.
