  1. After Intel messed up 6th and 7th gens with the random locking bug, I looked for AMD to upgrade. Sadly, they only had PCIe 3 support on their CPUs with integrated graphics. Since PCIe 4 was already out there, I wanted PCIe 4 so I can use the latest and greatest in NVMe drives. So I had to choose from Intel's Gen 12 or 13. I went with Gen 12 because it required way less power, and the speed and number of cores+threads are plenty in the i7-12700 I got. I get nervous when I see news like this, knowing how Skylake (6th gen) tortured me with up to 4-5 hard freezes per day, but I'm relieved to see it's only with the newer generations. I hope my 12-gen will survive long enough, and I also hope that AMD will do better by the time I need a newer CPU. If I can avoid Intel, I'll do it. They're a disgrace.
