The highways being g talked about were built in the 50's. 20 years after red lining defined the black neighborhoods. These highways effectively ensured their property values would remain low.

Stephanie Booth it's what defined the black neighborhoods and then they put highways through them which kept the property values in the toilet. Very relevant to this topic.

@RAMSLF you're absolutely right. No one means the road its self is racist, just that the reason it was put there was racially driven. Cities have grown, so have those highways. Now you have these huge monstrosities running through these poorer neighborhoods forever condemning them to that fate. Move the highway and the neighborhood can come back. It's worked in some cities already.

@tommas2674 red lining laws were when people initially abe to get mortgages they only let white people get them. To the point that if there was ONE black family on the block you could not get a mortgage. Red lining was literally that. A red line on the map where white people could own and black people could rent. Then 15 years later they built the highway systems and routed them through black neighborhoods.
