  35.  @erinralston  OK first off you comparing an impeachment to a trial is like comparing apples and oranges and I am not sure you understand the distinctions between the two. Secondly, you allude to the burden of truth and right of being innocent until proven guilty apply here. It isn't a judicial hearing we were watching. Legally, the law didn't apply because he wasn't being charged under our legal system. I am having difficulty with this conversation because just when I think you understand something you turn around and say something stupid.

The Constitution gives the Senate the 'sole power to try impeachments,' and requires that senators 'be on oath or affirmation' while sitting for that purpose.  During these trials, Senators take an oath to "do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws," while sitting for an impeachment trial. For this reason, Senators are technically required to act as an impartial juror. The Republicans did not conform to their oath in this respect so exactly how can you claim validity in their decisions. I know technically their biased decisions stand but as an American citizen YOU should not support this.
