  2. I have driven in that area many times, I can't imagine trying to walk it or go over it in a oxen pulled wagon. The place is brutal.

  3. Grant didn't just say "screw the treaty" and open the Black Hills to mining. Custer was supposed to keep it a secret because Grant knew what would happen if word got out. Read Ron Chernow's biography of Grant and you will understand better the pressure he was under.
