  1. If they built things like they did a thousand years ago, demolition crews and wood mills would be a memory. Like an ironsmith, the old school trades and practices are memories, traded for perpetual employment practices. If you build an indestructible building, bridge or road, the jobs would disappear, and the tax base would shrink. To keep people paying taxes, they need to do frivolous, mundane tasks. They need to keep people with just enough hope to not kill themselves. They have to live in squalor so people at the top can afford the gas in their second yacht. So they can go ahead and kick some of it back to the people they replaced. So they don't starve to death. They WOULD let them die, but that wouldn't be a good look when pandering for votes.
