By cutting the US (and other nations) dependence on Taiwan's semiconductor industry and bringing it back home, Taiwan becomes less and less of a strategic target as the SOLE place to find much of the world's necessary silicon. China wants Taiwan more for the TSMC fabs than any historical reasons. That's just fluff.
