  9. When it comes to getting your hands dirty in the ground war, fancy and expensive doesn't work. Cheap, durable, and easily fixed/replaced works. Our guntrucks weren't science fiction marvels armed with lasers, they were hummers and delivery trucks with armor bolted on and a motor pool of salty grunt mechanics. At 25,000 feet in a dog fight with strategic implications, sure, go Fancy Spendy. At Angels 2 with purely tactical implications, you have to accept some losses, and have the money to replace the equipment AND the men, AND still field lots of them afterwards. Sorry, that's just war logistics. Never, ever go with an "eggs in 1 basket" strategy when getting dirty with the ground conflict, which is what the F-35 does, and the A-10 does not. You shoot down 1 out of 2 F-35's, CAS just stopped. You shoot down 3 of 9 A-10's for the same price, the other 6 keep delivering Mk83 pizzas.

China smuggled the parts and tech to them as part of furthering their ambitions, and using "diplomatic control" of NoKo's belligerancy as a tool to get what they want globally. Such as control of the South China Sea thousands of miles from their own coast and but only dozens of miles off the coasts of neighboring nations.

  13. Look at it this way: When a mil tech can be turned into a whole industry unto itself for peaceful purposes, that makes MONEY. That money changing hands generates economic growth, which generates tax revenue along the way. It's paying for itself and then some.

  14. What's funny is how the Ion drive was famously considered a dead end/not-good-enough by most NASA planners two decades ago. It was good enough for Voyager, but nothing large-cargo/manned. But being an atomic rail gun, it's all about the power pushing the reaction mass being fired out the arse, and the idea of a large output nuclear reactor powering an array of ion thrusters has come back into vogue the last few years. It's just not even remotely suitable for trans-atmospheric work.

  15. Excluding SUV's and trucks, measuring just cars: Tesla sold more cars than Ford in 2019. That's not a dent. That's a totalled-out head-on crash. Ford makes such hulabaloo about having the #1 most sold truck in the US (F150), but: that's just because the US Government contracted to buy reams and reams of them.
