You could shorten that list by detailing what it wouldn't do. A whole helluva lotta physics would be going down, and forensics teams would have to request a budget increase

Rechamber in 5.7x28, win lottery to buy enough ammo for it, and enjoy.

It would be worth it to engineer a 350cc Yamaha-powered twin cylinder, liquid cooled, 2-stroke powered chain gun vomitting BOFORs 40 x365 R mike mike just for the AWESOME

Another solid argument for potent muzzle brakes on German MGs MG42: JA! Mein recoil ist muchen. HK21: Unt holden mein Bier! MG131: Das ist cuten.

I would submit that alot of the reason you didn't see the 5.7x28 in PDW's/Pistols take off in NATO aresenals is because H&K threw their weight into the adoption process by NATO, because they wanted their 4.6x30 round adopted. Due to the deadlock Germany's sole objection caused, Belguim's 5.7 round was sidelined because the entire process was frustrated. In the end, it all came down to contracts and money, and everyone said "Fuck it, we'll just stick with 9mm because it's not worth the hassle". H&K has serious Kraut Clout, and don't like playing second fiddle to FN. Even US AMC (Army Materiel Command) had supported the 5.7, and some of our aviators are issued P90's for flight ops on such missions as international drug interdiction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_P90

Dear Rock Island Arsenal: Want to trade one 2014 Tacoma (low miles, lightly used, only driven to church on freeway by an old lady on sundays) for Brit Scorpion FV101 or German Wiesel Mk20. Call me.

Oh I wanted the F2K rifle alright. I just didn't want to pay FN's SciFi tax again like I did for my actually-dirt-cheap-to-make-and-we-all-know-it Five-Seven

I do love that electronically fire managed (but still pressure operated) paintball markers are the reliable, competitive norm today when solely mechanical guns are the ones always broken down for troubleshooting on a table, but the Firearms market still obeys the "if it was good enough for my Pa, it's good enough for me" ethic. Push-button adjustable fire rate & gas management for suppressors/altitude adjust, anyone? No?

@seanmac1793 Were you there during WW Deuce? I got news for you, no one gets more CAB trigger time behind a crew serve these days than an 88M. That's a truck driver. The Logi Lines are always Target #1, and the MSR's are where they do their bloody business. For the record, we rack our weapons next to the cannon on the battery firing line.

My first car was a '76 VeeWee Rabbit. Speedo went up to 140 mph. That was a tad overly optimistic. Like the range adjustment sights on this rifle.

They say dogs look like their owners. Guns, clearly, look like their nations.

@ScottKenny1978 The funniest part is watching your CO ask a bush-league back-alley arms dealer in the Adamiyah district of Baghdad for a paper receipt after buying a bunch of loose-and-questionable AK ammo to supply the Iraqi National Guard company you've been training. Because he doesn't take credit cards, your interpreter had to tell you where to find him, and the ING's are being evasive about why all their ordnance and ammo is disappearing. Literal black market logistics chain.

An ancient weapon platform so popular, we build whole new vehicles worth 100x as much just to tote it around, and 4 assholes to crew it

Well, it didn't make me go play World of Tanks. But it did make me rewatch Girls und Panzer. Although I find the systemic misandry of Tankery very troubling.

I love how the first answer the I Am A Responsible, Law Abiding Gun Owner crowd keep parroting in the comments today is "Immediately be irresponsible and break the law by bootlegging it" And we wonder why the rest of the public think the 2A crowd is full of shit

There's so much about this that a little modernization and tweaking/rechambering could make into a relevant military PDW today. The machine gunner's best CQB friend.

The problem with the final go/no go decision to contract purchase and field a new MG for the troops in the wild: It's never made by someone who will actually use it in the wild.

@jeffreyroot6300 Thank you. And a hearty Allahu Akbar to you as well, sir.

@MagicSquid Yeah, I didn't see they had already posted a shoot on the InRange page until a while after I saw this. After watching that one, I didn't see them try to fire it with the stupid forward eject port/dust cover doo-hicky popped off. It wouldn't appear to be dangerous or malfunction inducing to do so, it's only impeding the action rather than being integral to it. Probably would have solved most of their problems to just let the spent brass dribble out the side, so long as Ian wore long sleeves for when that hot case drops down on his elbow :P If that is the source of the majority of it's malfunctions due to a stoppage during the eject cycle, then pop that sonofabitch off, keeping the ejector level cover in place on the side you put your cheek weld

It's crazy to know that, technically, the damn thing is still in service in the form of the MG 3. Just rechambered for 7.62 NATO with modern materials and tooling. It's almost as commonly used as our 240 Bravo/FN MAG. Blew my mind when I thought I saw an MG 42 on a Turkish Cobra uparmored car. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rheinmetall_MG_3

This is why people can't stand second hand smoke in public places. How much for a carton?

Is that even it's final form?

Makes a nice concealed carry piece, but can we see the full size version?
1
I appreciate that they didn't make the cog teeth flush and perfectly machined to the round guide rail holes. This allows the inenitable buildup of field environment gunk to slide around and get pushed out of the mechanism rather than instantly jam it up with a single grain of sand caught inside of intolerantly tight tolerances.
