The entire progressive caucus got together to discuss the leadership and couldn't find one person to the left of Nancy. Tells you all you need to know about the progressive caucus either they are to the right of Nancy or scared of her and won't fight for the people when it matters.

AOC is saying it is back to the lesser of 2 evils and that there is no longer an alternative you have to go along. We sent you there to kick out the corporate Democrats not support them.

@countingcoup why doesn't AOC call out the more progressive members who didn't put there name out there like Lee and Gabbard both of which I have seen campaigns to get to run but they refuse. I am not saying AOC should run just that she shouldn't give in so easy she needs to keep pressure on the progressive caucus to pick someone else we have a full month before the vote why surrender so soon?

@allegory6393 yes surrendering to pay go and a 2/3 major to actually fund Medicare for All is how you win the fight. Or how you surrender and kill any chance to actually get policy passes. Currently everyone knows the house can't force policy through the Senate. There are only 2 options for the Democrats in the house. 1 play the investigation and impeachment game that will go nowhere because it won't pass in the Senate and will play into the GOP talking points of a witchhunt and obstructionism. 2 pass actual policy the people want like a living wage tied to inflation and Medicare for All to control the conversation in 2020 and make the GOP the party that is against what the people want. Make the GOP be the party that is in favor of Medicare bankruptcies because they refused to even vote on Medicare for All after hr676 passes in the Democratic house. But pay go will kill any chance of that happenings. So voting for Nancy now is a vote to kill Medicare for All. The long game is to focus on setting the agenda for 2020 because we need to win the Senate and the Whitehouse. Nancy Pelosi doesn't help with that long game she emboldens the GOP while turning away the progressives because she is the poster child for the corporate Democrats in the house.

@countingcoup well I am sure AOC didn't put public pressure on other members of Congress. I am also sure she did give public support for Nancy which makes that much less pressure on any potential progressive candidate for speaker.

@azmildman AOC has said no one to the left of her is running so she is backing her. That amounts to the same thing unless you think AOC tossed her support to Nancy before checking with people to the left of her.

@allegory6393 Pay as you go is a house rule set by the house. House rules are set at the start of each session. Nancy Pelosi has stated that she will reinstate pay as you go for the house as speaker. I am sure that the house had to remove pay as you go or Paul Ryan would not have been able to pass the tax cuts for the wealthy without budget cuts to offset them.

@johnryan3102 so what you think an environment which is good for the politican who takes the most corporate bribes is going to be the environment where a politician who doesn't take any bribes does well? The fact that Nancy is having troubles getting to be speaker is infact the only environment where a politician who isn't controlled by corporate funding will do well. So I don't get your argument that because it is hard for Nancy by definition that is hard for a progressive. Nancy is again Medicare for All and 70% of the population is for Medicare for All as one example of how an environment where a progressive could get more support. But that requires that progressives take the fight to the people not let the politicians make the choice behind closed doors where bribery wins.

@johnryan3102 we definitely need more progressives but there are suppose to be far more then the 7 Justices Democratics who are progressives in the house. Heck Tulsi Gabbard is not a Justice Democrat and she would be 1 million times better as speaker. Lee isn't a Justice Democrat either but I would love to see her as speaker. See that gets you to 9 votes just off the top of my head and I am not even a member of Congress or the progressive caucus.

@fomori2 the Pont is to use their leverage to get something. Nancy will kill all their policy plans with her pay as you go and no new taxes. That no new taxes should remind you of someone. But the corporations own Nancy and the GOP so I am sure they will get along well.
