  1. Richard in some cases leaving the power grid is less expensive than staying on the grid. I am in that situation in NH. The off grid solar system I am in the process of installing will pay for itself in under 10 years. That means it is less expensive even with a home equity loan or mortgage. It doesn't require wealth if the off grid solar system saves you money it only requires that you use your credit wisely when you buy.

  2.  @smokedbeefandcheese4144  I am on the grid and leaving it makes since depends on your local power company. Mine has over half my bill as fees not power so I can't offset those fees with net metering. All depends on your situation but as storage drops in price o suspect more people will save money by not being on the grid
