Chevron is way ahead in this game they literally took over a court room in the USA and held a trial with their own judge and prosecutor against a lawyer who won a court case against them outside the USA putting him under house arrest for over a year and 6 months of prison time.
8
@GreatRetro the lawyer is Steven Donziger. It is well worth googling his name and Chevron. It is the type of story that you wouldn't believe if it was a movie plot.

Don't worry the free market will soon fix that as wind and solar are the cheapest forms of new energy. The caplistist system has spoken nuclear and ff are all history.
3
@mrkokolore6187 people like myself living with offgrid solar systems prove you wrong every single day
3
@mrkokolore6187 priceless that you tell the person living off grid solar that they don't know how hard the energy transition is. That is like telling the person on the summit they don't know how hard the climb is.
3
@anthonymorris5084 wow the nuclear trolls calling wind and solar heavily subsided 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
3
Wow nice deflection attempt. Almost like you are trying to get people to talk about anything else. What's the matter cows not landing today for you?
3
Funny no mention of growing hemp and using natrual fibers to replace synthetic materials. This is totally focused on big business high tech solutions that are more energy intensive. There are low tech solutions.
3
Time to hold the ff industry accountable for their actions. Citizens United in the USA said companies are people so it is time to lock them up for their crimes against humanity
3
It is called permiculture
2
@mrkokolore6187 you clearly are stuck in the one solution fits all mindset. There are these things call off shore wind turbines that power entire cities. Or dams that have only been doing it in the USA since the great depression. You need to get up to date some of the technology you lack understanding of is literally over a century old.
2
@mrkokolore6187 wind tends to blow more at off peak solar hours hydro dams can produce at any hour of the day or night. Pumped hydro storage has existed probably since the Roman's wanted to figure out how to have running water. But sure keep telling yourself that energy storage is a major problem in society that is literally building manufacturing capacity for energy storage at rates never seen in history.
2
@mrkokolore6187 the wealthy elites are pro nuclear because it keeps them profiting off the energy sector. Far better to keep people buying energy in a caplistist society if you are profiteering off it then to have them get it for free off their own property. But without government subsidies nuclear is a nonstarter no private sector funding will build a nuclear power plant because they know it is too expensive compared to all other forms of energy. Also if you worry about energy storage you hate nuclear we built pumped storage to deal with how poor nuclear power is at matching the grid demand.
2
@anthonymorris5084 so safe we have nuclear exclusion zones and have to keep rebuilding the containment facilities around the failures indefinitely into the future for centuries to come. But the lack of safety isn't the point it is literally the most expensive form of new energy as apposed to wind and solar that are the least expensive. Simple market forces that any good caplistist should understand.
2
@apocsoviet3813 funny because nuclear power made the electricity in the east coast of the USA the most expensive in the country. Since the 80s
2
@nmn8829 lol the sun has literally supplied all the energy for life on earth for 4 billion years that seems pretty reliable to me it is definitely a longer track record than any man made system. As to subsidize let end them for the nuclear industry and see what the total cost of operating is. How many power companies have declared bankruptcy because of their nuclear power plants needing to be decommissioned or sold them to a dummy company? For the nuclear and ff industry to complain about subsidies is priceless
2
No greed and profiteering is as old as capitalism
2
That only means we have no choice but to make it our #1 priority
1
@mrkokolore6187 too bad the US government doesn't listen to scientist you mean. The IPCC is clear you should listen to them
1
@anthonymorris5084 guess you got triggered by being laughed at
1
@anthonymorris5084 when you can't win on the merits of your argument belittle the messenger. I see you are trained in all the classic techniques of trolling.
1
@anthonymorris5084 act like a paid troll and get called one seems fair to me. The nuclear industry is well know for paid trolls. I just hope you are getting a nice paycheck for your trolling.
1
@anthonymorris5084 you talking to yourself?
1
@apocsoviet3813 wow the master trolling misunderstanding a point on purpose.
1
@apocsoviet3813 the French government heavely subsided the constitution and operation of those nuclear power plants. The same was not true about the plants here in the USA. Like most all nuclear power plants I have seen they where plagged with cost overruns and construction issues that required design changes. The dome on Seabrook nuclear power plant in NH suffered cracks in the foundation requiring the thickness be doubled. It still to this day has structural cracks in the foundation that make the operation at that site questionable at best but it gets recertified and the certification often sites a low earthquake or storm damage risk in the area. So basically it is safe as long as nothing changes in the climate to actually cause it to be hit by a big storm... but it made the electricity rates in the region higher than else where in the country it is cheaper to be getting your electricity from the coal plant in Bow NH and has been the entire time Seabrook has been in operation. That is before you consider the disposal issues and decommissioning costs. So to answer your question the french Government hides the true cost. Look across the English channel at their latest nuclear power plant build and you will see how the cost overruns drive up the cost. The nuclear industry wants you to only look at the operating cost as though the plants just pop on site and vanish at end of life free of charge.
1
@nmn8829 wow someone who thinks things can't be scaled up. I guess you never heard of economics of scale. Storage isn't a problem in a society that is rapidly building manufacturing capacity for storage devices.
1
@nmn8829 on the bright side you won't have to be convinced the billionaires who sell you electricity will install the cheapest solution which is wind and solar.
1
@nmn8829 you should have stopped at the first , because after that you went off the rails crazy
1
We have the best government caplistist greed can buy in the USA. Australia is a close second but your dollar buys more power in the USA political system. Buy a senator get a 10 billion dollar government space contract just ask Jeff Bezos
1
Judging by the reply that was deleted you don't understand sarcasm and must have serious issues with social media
1
Which is why we need to put the management team in prison for crimes against humanity
1
@Tore_Lund even if your power source is coal an EV produces less emissions that a gas or diesel car. It takes as much electricity to refine a gallon of gas to move a gas car 30 miles as it takes to move an EV the same 30 miles. But the bigger point is that a gas or diesel car will always polite for their entire lifetime. An EV will be able to run cleaner as we clean up the power grid. Not to mention the link between people who buy an EV and also buy solar panels or renewable energy from the grid.
1
Anything to distract from the real problem our over consumption of energy.
1
You can't solve a society wide problem with individual actions. If we could the hippies would have fixed the climate crisis in the 60s and 70s.
1
Just end there government subsidies and watch the free market crush the ff industry. Wind and solar are the lowest cost new energy generation today. EV already have lower total cost of ownership. The ecominic system is againt the ff industry today it is only kept afloat by government subsidies by bought politicians
1
Sure we will just evolve our way out of the 6th mass extinction event. Ask the first dinosaurs you see how well that worked out for them.
1
Why don't you embrace the free market and end all government subsidies to the ff industry? Just asking
