Wrong nuclear is the most expensive form of new energy generation
6
@Leifthrasir really it is cheaper to hire someone to run a nuclear power plant and buying new fuel every 18 months than just letting solar panels sit out there in the sun on my lawn? Because my ground mount solar system costs me exactly zero dollars every day to operate so tell me how is a nuclear power plant operated at less than zero dollars per day because those are some pretty bad paying jobs for the workers and poor prices for the suppliers if raw materials to run the plant.
5
What a great way to waste money on the most expensive form of new energy generation. Wind and solar plus storage will come on line faster at a lower cost
5
@visassess8607 pretty sure they already did
4
Bul Thaosen why is population a concern the larger the population the larger the pool of resources a country has access to. It is easier for a wealthy larger community to afford something than a smaller poorer one. Where you just trying to point out how much easier it would be for the wealthy countries?
3
@goldflo91 we have the alternatives wind solar and storage. Hydro or tidal in very select areas. They are all proven technology we just need to build them out
3
@OutragedPufferfish Uruguay it was covered on this very same channel just yesterday I am pretty sure you commented on the video where they told us all that they are 98% renewable energy. You might want to see a doctor if you forgot yesterday already
2
@tjmarx no they will have a second empty pipeline. RT had an article the other day saying the reduction in exports was to insire they have supply for domestic needs as they expect a cold winter with high domestic demand.
2
Last time I checked the sun didn't send a bill for my solar panels.
2
@AndresMenard the vast majority of cities are on the coast offshore wind is the logical solution for them. The renewable energy future will not be a one solution fits all world it will depend on what your local resources are what is the best answer. But there are many good renewable energy sources to choose from.
2
@paulschmidts5429 why the false choice? I would rather we all install more wind turbines and solar panels they will being us power far faster than any nuclear power plant. Probably faster then rebuilding a decommissioned coal plant as well.
2
@nntflow7058 you trust the same industry who said the old technology was perfectly safe when it as new technology. How cute.
2
@TeddyKrimsony funny because for stationary storage you came use any battery technology and I can't think of a single one that is more environmentally damaging than the ff industry and the fracking industry
2
How about ending the ff monopoly by building local renewable energy. Having my own solar system has given me freedom from the power grid and security knowing I have power for decades to come
2
Bul Thaosen you need to re read what I wrote. I said it was easier for a larger wealthy community to do it than a smaller poor one.
1
@vinniechan wow you get a gold star. This is a insightful as saying water is wet
1
@vinniechan you might as well point out that thermal power plants depend on water.
1
All you ff tools who don't realize people like me have gone off grid solar with no ff and no sacrifice to my lifestyle. That electric stove powered by my solar panels cooks breakfast just as well as the old gas one did but cost me nothing at the end of the month.
1
@OutragedPufferfish you don't think they have electric stoves there??? Wow
1
@OutragedPufferfish don't worry Tesla, BMW, BYD and many other automotive manufacturers are rapidly transitioning the automotive industry to EV they will soon follow Norway where over 90 percentage of all new vehicles sold plug into the electric grid for power.
1
@OutragedPufferfish you are intentionally missing the point but them there are non so blind as those who refuse to see
1
ea wow such deep analysis I can tell you have spend decades studying the issue
1
@TeddyKrimsony why would the rest of Europe want to get all their electricity from England??? Seems like it would be smarter to put it on the roofs where people live
1
@Leifthrasir so you admit it is the most expensive to install and more expensive than solar to operate. You do like wasting money apparently
1
@evaldaszmitra7322 those are funny numbers but I will stick with the solar panels I have instead of living near a nuclear waste plant. We keep all the nuclear waste at all power plants in the USA because we can't dispose of it. We have made enough of a headache for future generations with that mess.
1
@Leifthrasir funny because nuclear power has made electricity the most expensive in the USA here. We literally pay higher rates than other states because of the Seabrook nuclear power plant. And that is because we talk about the burden paid by future generations guard our nuclear waste.
1
ea all you need to do is over build which the power companies already do with redundancy and include grid scale storage. V2G technology is one option of many for grid scale storage. But we learned in the 60s that we need storage we have pumped hydro storage because nuclear power can't ramp to meet demand. We have peaker plants because coal boilers can't ramp to meet demand. You act as though supply and demand load balancing is new but it isn't. We already see that batteries are lower cost and better performance than old school gas peaker plants. We know pumped hydro is good for 24 hour energy load balancing thanks to decades of the nuclear industry. This is nothing new. I have off grid solar and batteries it works great I never worry about electric my solar is far more stable then the grid which drops out in wind or even sometimes for hours at at time on a perfectly calm clear night here in the USA.
1
ea I am pretty sure humans don't live where there is no sun or wind. But feel free to keep hiding in your cave from the rest of the world.
1
ea the sun has only powered all life on planet earth. But yup that is pretty unreliable you should definitely worry it might not rise in the morning.
1
@Leifthrasir if you think nuclear earns back its cost so quickly just think how fast wind and solar which are cheaper to install and operate will pay back. Not to mention cheaper to decommission. When your solution is more expensive at every phase of it's life you shouldn't argue cost
1
@evaldaszmitra7322 doesn't mater why nuclear power is the most expensive form of new energy after over half a century it has remained expensive. The market has spoken we have less expensive alternatives
1
@evaldaszmitra7322 there isn't a lot of nuclear waste that one is priceless. You seem to lack a understanding of toxicity. You really do need to watch that video I posted.
1
@thatsnotagoodidea in a decade wow so fast... we could install solar panels on roofs tomorrow morning but let's wait a decade instead that will definitely help with the winter 2021 energy crisis a solution that goes on line winter of 2031... great idea
1
@thatsnotagoodidea where did you get your 10 years to ramp up manufacturing of solar panels? I have spent many hours talking with the engineers installing those manufacturing lines in Tiawan and can assure you that your estimate is off by an order of magnitude. Not to mention that we literally have more solar panels manufacturing capacity today than we have sales volume the factories are not running 24/7 today some might be but definitely not all.
1
@thatsnotagoodidea I am at 41 north and it is sufficient for my needs in the winter. You just have to design for the climate you live in. But most places that have poor winter solar gain have nice wind gains.
1
Sure only a few hundred more to go...
1
@OutragedPufferfish the poor people are far less of a problem then the companies that just got a global tax cut to 15% getting government subsidies. But I love how you exnore the real cash flow and focus on the symptom aspect
1
Almost like being dependent on imported energy instead of domestic renewable energy is a risk to national security
1
All good points but you can't solve a society wide problem with individual actions alone. It will take government regulations and building codes to get these changes implemented across all of society
1
@zbynekII insulation is the cheapest way to address energy costs. Solar and wind are the cheapest forms of new energy generation with zero operating cost for rooftop solar after the install. My system paid for itself in 9 years and is rated for 12 years on the batteries and 25 years at 80% of the rated output for the rest of the system. So these things save money.
