If only the global governments had a conference of the parties they could all address their emmisions before the climate crisis become an emergency endangering the human economy and life. Oh right we have tried that 26 years running and only now that we have drought and wildfires do they understand it might be a problem needing solutions.

@Skoda130 indigenous communities are often not based on growth. It is why there are native tribes who lived in harmony for centuries before modern civilization kicked them off the land. So no not all societies are based on growth. Just the ones we as members of like to call advanced.
7
As the effects trail emmisions by a decade and half of all ff ever burned has been burned in the last 2 decades time ran out while the governments delayed action at 26 annual COP meetings.
6
Trying hard to redirect the problem away from the 100 companies responsible for the vast majority of all emmisions.

It will just reduce the river to one narrow channel wide enough for the shipping industry

@kaltenburg2637 but to answer your question we got to 8.5 billion ish people because food was cheap with ff driven mass production of poor quality food. It wasn't the outstanding healthcare of people living in the slums of India and China. In those slums in India the lifespan is something like 35 years old. That is the cost of your modern society.

Literally never in the history of human kind has this level of climate change and warming happened. But sure maybe in a world which didn't support human life in the distance past like when the dinosaurs ruled.

@cccc2740 you are still deflecting attention from those with the power to do something and blaming those who are powerless. Individual actions won't solve a society wide problem alone.
2
@cccc2740 I mean you throwing away 19 pairs of shoes won't end the climate crisis. Individual actions alone won't fix a society wide problem. Seems like you are trying hard to miss the point

@marinaclarasanchezsuarez2905 while there is no going back we need to do everything we can ASAP to limit all future damage to the only biosphere that supports human life in the entire universe. I know am fully aware that the effects lag emmisions by a full decade and that half of all emmisions have happened in the last 2 decades so things will definitely continue to get worse for the climate emergency than we see today. However that is a call to act with urgency to end the ff era. To do otherwise is to embrace the 6th mass extinction event already in progress on the only planet that supports human life

@nemo4evr agreed but mostly they are determining what percentage they need to bribe politicians like Joe Manchin with.

@edix1673 what you must do at home is push for a structural change to the political system that will build the political will to act. In the USA that means fight for rank choice voting to end the duopoly. In France it means protest like the farmers and yellow vest movements. In the UK it means Join XR because they are the only thing I see from the outside standing up to the establishment and putting political pressure on the politicians.

@cccc2740 the hippies tried to end the climate crisis in the 1970s through individual action. If that approach worked we never would have burned more than half the ff ever burned as we have done that in the last 2 decades after over half a century of trying to solve the problem with individual actions. To fail to understand that is to willfully blame the powerless and let those with the actual power to solve the problem off the hook.

@cccc2740 no by all means live the best you can I am trying to lead by example. I grow my own food and can it in the same canning jars that my grandfather used and have served my family for generations now. But I don't go around telling people if only they lived as frugally as I do we wouldn't have a climate crisis. Because I know the truth is the US military is the worlds single largest consumer of ff and no individual actions will end their burning ff just like no one choosing to stay home and not fly to Disneyland won't end the airline industry or replace it with renewable energy powered high speed trains. It will take collective pressure on our politicians to pass legislation to end the ff era and keep a planet that supports human life. So by all means live frugally but it won't fix the problem it will only drive people away from your cause when you tell them they have to sacrifice their luxuries whatever those might be.

@Skoda130 capitalism is only the latest form of structuring a society it will pass as all other systems before it have in time. Infact it looks as though the inequality built into capitalism has about run its course. There are very few places on the globe left to exploit for the wealth of the elites in a capitalist system. All systems based on growth will end when faced with finite resources.
1
@Skoda130 but is nice to see you understand capitalism is not forever that is progress
1
@kaltenburg2637 you don't think the modern society has caused deaths? I am willing to bet capitalism as the driving force behind both world wars exceeds the death rate of any older culture due to diseases. How many did our modern society kill by spreading covid globally or by bombing children in Gaza in the last few days???
1
@hollow5004 cultures try to keep the status quo all change is hard and the youth usually drive it to escape the culture of repression you speak of
1
@kaltenburg2637 why do you think this many people is a good thing on a planet that supports 2 billion?
1
@kaltenburg2637 try living in the slums in India and see if you thing this capitalists greed is so wonderful or if maybe the wealthy could do with a little less so they didn't have to pick through garbage for to survive.
1
@kaltenburg2637 you have no clue what the global carrying capacity is clearly. There are many studies you can look up they all point to about 2 billion without ff which is making the planet not support human life.

@marinaclarasanchezsuarez2905 what is the point to your question? It comes across as party like it is 1999.
