Only 25% of eligible voters voted for Trump you don't need to get the die hard Trump voters you need to run someone who reaches the 44% of voters who stayed home because they didn't like either choice.

May the Science be with You The people who make the effort to vote are the people with the more extreme views in this country. The people to the extreme right have good rep in the Republican party so they go and vote for the GOP. The Democrat party was taken over by centrists about 40 years ago. That has turned off the progressives as for 40 years they have not had anyone to rep them. 2018 will show us what happens when we have progressive candidates to vote for. I expect if we give more people something to vote for not someone to vote against we get higher turnout. Yes it is tragic that we have low turnout but the solution is not to send out police to round up citizens and force them to vote. Voting is a right of all citizens but you have the choice of which rights you take advantage of. The question is why are we willing to accept 2 political parties which have so failed the nation that we have this low turnout. As to a 3rd party until it is on the ballet on all 50 states it won't attract a lot of voters. There are too many voters who have voted on their values only to see the establishment crush the canadates they voted for time and time again to come out for a 3rd party that isn't in all 50 states. Ross Perot was the closest a 3rd party has come and that is another long debate as to why he stopped when he was starting to get momentum.
