Both parties have moved right in the USA over the last half century. Obama once told reporters he aligned with the 80s Republican party after he was elected president.

Ironically it was also Nixon's curruption and being forced out of office that caused Murdoch to build a media empire to insure no Republican would have to do the same again. Trump put that to the test and Murdoch was proven effective. So there is that bad legacy of the Nixon administration
