@richmiglio what is your fear that china will work out a mining agreement with Afghanistan to get the raw materials for batteries and electric motors that will be sold to Ford for their electric pickup? We are happy to buy cell phones built in China with raw materials mined in Africa

@jeffweskamp3685 you could make the same argument about every empire in the history of humanity. Russua spend a decade there before the USA spend 2 so do you think Russia should take 1/3 of the refugees as they where at war there 1/3 of the time?

@richmiglio the USA spent 2 trillion dollars in 2 decades of war in Afghanistan the resources you speak of are worth half that value. So clearly it is throwing good money after bad if you think we should continue to spend money for those resources that we already lost twice their value in wars over.

@imacmill wrong the real reason was to keep the dollar the standard for international trade. If you check every country we went to war with in the middle east was looking at trading their resources in non dollar backed trades. Every since the Bretton Woods agreement post WWII having the US dollar be the stand for international trade has allowed the United States to be the one country that can deficit spend and not tax the wealthy allowing the ever increasing wealth inequality in our society.

@imacmill why did the USA end an incredibly unpopular longest war in the history of the country? Maybe because 2 trillion dollars wasted was starting to get hard to justify as the ff era ends and the link between the US Dollar and Petro is comming to an end with the end of the ff industry. Ask yourself why we put crushing sanctions on Iran and invaded Iraq and Afghanistan while leaving SA alone you will quickly see which countries support having the US Dollar as the basis of trade and which don't. If we just wanted the resources there were far more available in SA or Venezuela.

@janiekcarney5482 if only all debt where held to one standard. We have no problem as a society allowing the wealthy and bankers to file bankruptcy or get government bailouts.
