  2. You can't call it a World War until the WHOLE WORLD is involved. If your definition is going to be fighting allover the world between globe spanning empires you'd best call it WWV; the Seven Years War, French Revolutionary War, and the Napoleonic War were global conflicts meeting how you are defining "WWII". The War was confined to Europe until Italy broadened it to North Africa. A couple of brief sideshows in the Middle East hardly extended it to Asia. Even the Soviet Union was basically a European power fighting a European war. Even after Pearl Harbor, Latin America was absent from the rota. Calling it a "World War", regardless of iteration, makes even less sense than the "World Series" in Baseball: that is just semantic error; but if whole continents avoid the fighting for most, if not all, of both you can hardly call either a World War.
